Welcome to another year, everyone! I hope this one brings us more good than bad.
I’m still recovering from all the Christmas food, but I’m already starting to eye the release dates for 2026 and plan my reading year. I’ve decided to set a few reading goals for myself in 2026, and I want to share them with you—for accountability and a bit of extra motivation.
Read 24 books
It might seem a bit silly to measure your reading year by the number of books you read instead of focusing purely on quality or enjoyment. But just like this year, I’m hoping to combine the two. This goal helps keep me motivated and consistent. I also managed it in 2025, so I’m hopeful I can keep the same pace going.
Read some old classics
You know those books that are always on “start reading fantasy here” lists? There are so many of them that I haven’t read yet, and it’s honestly a bit embarrassing. But it happens. With so many new books coming out every year, going back to older titles sometimes isn’t a priority.
For example, I have never read The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. I have no idea why this trilogy keeps slipping away from me, I just know that it does. I’m hoping this is the year I finally get to it.
Read books I missed in 2025
I really wanted to get around to The Strength of the Few and Sunrise on the Reaping this year, but I simply ran out of time. There are several other 2025 releases I didn’t manage to read either, and I’m hoping to catch up on them throughout 2026.
Read a good amount of non-fiction
I love sprinkling in some non-fiction, especially historical biographies. I read a fair amount during 2025 and especially loved How to Kill a Witch: A Guide for the Patriarchy by Claire Mitchell KC and Zoe Venditozzi. I’m hoping to keep that trend going in 2026 as well.
Enjoy the reading experience
In 2025, I had so much fun with the books I picked up. While not all of them worked for me, I was lucky enough to find enjoyment in many of them. I’m hoping to carry that same mindset with me throughout 2026.
These are my main reading goals for 2026, and I’m excited to see where this reading year takes me. Whether you’re planning your own reading goals, building a reading habit, or deciding what books to read in 2026, I hope this list gives you some inspiration. If you’re setting similar goals or have book recommendations you’re excited about this year, feel free to share them in the comments. I’d love to hear about your reading plans!
